Allen: Small Steps to a Safer, More Welcoming Summer Journey

Summer is here and we’re all eager to get to that next big event. Core Transit is committed to getting you there safely, but everyone on the road can do their part.

A safe and connected community doesn’t happen by accident; it is something we create, intentionally, together. Whether you’re driving alongside a bus, riding in one, walking, or biking through town, patience and a few small gestures of respect can make our transportation system safer, more comfortable, and more enjoyable for everyone.

In that spirit, here are some friendly reminders for on the road and on the bus.

On the Road: Let’s Look Out for Each Other

Drivers: Thanks for Giving Buses a Little Wiggle Room

Buses are big for a reason. They carry dozens of people and keep our valley moving. They need more room to stop, turn, and merge. If a bus signals to get back into traffic, letting it in is a small act that makes a big difference (oh and p.s... it’s also the law!).

Our expanded service means more buses on the road, and we know you’re seeing us even more often. We appreciate your patience! Waiting a few extra seconds gives our drivers the space they need to keep everyone on and around the bus safe.

Bicyclists: Communicate and stay visible

We live in a cycling paradise, and even non-cyclists benefit from its low environmental impact and positive contributions to our economy. Cyclists- our operators are highly trained professionals that are looking out for you, but you can help make their job a little easier. When biking near a bus, please communicate and stay visible. Don’t ride in the operator’s blind spots and never pass on the right. Use hand signals and make eye contact. These small acts of respect and acknowledgement can help everyone stay safe.

Pedestrians: We see you. Please look out for us too.

Our community is an active one: walking to and from work or school, or participating in community events where large numbers of people gather in and around our roadways. We love to see you out there, and we want you to stay safe. Please stay alert, and avoid standing too close to the road or crowding the bus before it has come to a complete stop. Make eye contact with drivers before crossing – maybe even a wave and a smile.

On the Bus: Let’s Ride with Care

Keep it clean, and keep it down

Please don’t eat or drink on the bus, and take your trash with you. It helps keep the space nice for the next rider. Enjoy videos or music, but please use headphones, and keep the speaker off. Catch up with friends, but speak quietly on the phone or to one another. Everyone appreciates a peaceful ride.

Traveling with Your Bike?

Bikes plus transit are a winning combination for health, environment, and the economy. We're big fans- expanding transportation options is what we’re all about.

All Core Transit buses are equipped with front bike racks, available on a first-come, first-served basis.  Bikes can be loaded during daylight hours, from dawn to dusk.

Why? Because the bike racks can block the bus headlights, affecting the operator’s visibility when it's dark. For everyone’s safety, we only allow bike loading while there is enough natural light to complete your trip safely. Please follow your operator’s guidance when light is getting low.

Also, please remember that riders are responsible for safely loading and securing their own bikes on the rack before boarding. Bicycles, regardless of size, are not allowed inside the bus.

Have questions? Just ask!

Whether you're a daily rider or just hopping on for the first time, we want every journey to be an empowering and gratifying experience.

When in doubt, just ask. Our friendly operators are happy to help with questions, fare info, or policy clarification. You can also visit coretransit.org or call (970) 328-3520.

If you prefer to speak with someone in person, stop by one of our offices, we’d love to see you:

Vail Transportation Center – open 7 days a week, 7 AM to 5 PM

Gypsum Office – open Monday through Friday, 10 AM to 3 PM

Our fully bilingual customer service team is always ready to assist!

When we look out for one another, the road becomes more than pavement and paint. It becomes the thread that connects us and a space where our values come to life.
